Tara O’Brien

Tara is a singer-songwriter guitarist who has performed festivals, tours, and has recorded on her own, as well as backing various Northern Ontario artists vocally and on both her guitar and bass. She has been a mainstay of the blues and folk roots music scene in Thunder Bay for many years.

Not only has Tara performed a lot of popular music working in everything from rock, to country, to jazz, but she also has her B.A. from Lakehead University studying with Sean Mundy for classical guitar. Additionally, Tara received her Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University, and has studied classical guitar with Jose Thomas in Vila Seca, Spain.

Tara has worked for ten years at Music Place, coordinating their guitar program and also teaches at the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre. Tara has performed solo as well as with The Last Chance Jam Band, Freeport, The Roy Coran’s Jazz Orchestra, Tender Mercy’s Rhythm, and Blues Band and Mercy Rose.

Tara is very excited about joining the Avila Music School team and is looking forward to reuniting with her former students, and welcomes newcomers as a mutual growing experience. Tara shares her experience and skills with students of all ages.
